Pelvic Physiotherapy
Empowering you to take charge of your pelvic health at any stage of life
Who would benefit from pelvic floor physiotherapy?
Pelvic health physiotherapy can be helpful at any stage of life. It is for those who want to sneeze without leaking, try an alternate option to surgery or pads, or work on addressing painful sex. It is for those preparing for or recovering from childbirth. Common reasons to see a pelvic floor physiotherapist include bladder or bowel incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse, pelvic pain, painful sex, diastasis recti, and preparation and recovery from c section or vaginal delivery. Pelvic floor challenges can impact anyone regardless of pregnancy history.
People come to pelvic health physiotherapy for a variety of reasons through seasons in life. Sometimes it is when you are eagerly anticipating a baby or wanting to check on your pelvic floor function after delivery, sometimes it is in times of distress with incontinence, pain, or prolapse. Addressing your symptoms may feel overwhelming and I will help you work towards improvement. I’m committed to providing highly supportive, personalized pelvic physiotherapy care and encouragement along the way. I am conveniently located within The MomMe Clinic in Hamilton, Ontario.
Common reasons to try
pelvic floor physiotherapy
Manage bladder or bowel leaks
Bladder and bowel leaks are common parts of life, but pads or surgery are not your only options to manage these things! Leakage can be fully cured or significantly improved for many people that try pelvic floor retraining with a pelvic physiotherapist. In pelvic physiotherapy, you will learn about the role of the pelvic floor muscles and what options may help with continence.
Address prolapse symptoms
Anatomical prolapse happens to about half of all people assigned female at birth, but most do not have symptoms. If you feel pelvic pressure or heaviness, or something coming out of your vagina, those are symptoms of prolapse, and may improve with pelvic floor physiotherapy treatment. A pelvic physiotherapist can help you learn strategies to reduce and manage your prolapse symptoms.
Pelvic pain or painful sex
Pain is complex and multifactorial. Some contributing factors could include increased nervous system sensitivity, stress, worry, pelvic floor muscle tension or spasm, sensitive scars, and more. When seeking pelvic physiotherapy, a pelvic health physiotherapist can help you consider contributing factors and make a plan to work towards reducing your pelvic pain.
Pregnancy and postpartum care
Pregnancy is a time of incredible change and increased demand on the pelvic floor. In pelvic physiotherapy, you'll learn strategies to optimize your pelvic function, strategies to lower your risk of tearing, education about c-section scar management, prehab and rehab for the pelvic floor, and more. Anyone who is pregnant or gives birth, regardless of mode of delivery, should access pelvic physiotherapy.
